About the event

CLF San Francisco hub is hosting an educational event and a discussion on strategies to reduce embodied carbon in buildings through design and procurement. This event will highlight ongoing or completed projects, current trends or technologies, and highlight successes, opportunities, or barriers in reducing the embodied carbon footprint of buildings.

Each speaker will touch on some of the following questions:

  • How have teams in the bay area addressed embodied carbon?
  • What specific strategies have they used?
  • What steps have teams taken during the design process?
  • How do they establish a baseline or evaluate alternatives?
  • How do teams go about procuring and accounting for low-carbon materials?

Speakers:

  • Vaclav Hasik from Urban Fabrick will introduce the CLF San Francisco hub and the basics behind embodied carbon.
  • Boris Gamazaychikov from Stok will share experience from a few mass timber projects in the Bay Area.
  • Baha Sadreddin from ZGF Architects will discuss the embodied carbon of concrete and share lessons learned from a project in Sacramento.
  • Christine Tiffin from Arup will cover embodied carbon of tenant improvement and MEP systems on a project with a Bay Area client.
